The holidays can be an especially tough time for many people who suffer from mental illness. While it may seem like a happy period filled with friends, family, and cheer, it can also be a very stressful and pressure-filled time of year. If you are struggling with depression, consider trying out these tips to help prepare and deal with the challenges of the season.
- Plan ahead by setting a budget, making extra therapy appointments, joining a group, etc.
- Volunteering can allow us to help others and get perspective on our own situations.
- Be kind to yourself. Take breaks and give yourself necessary space. Step out for fresh air and breathe.
- Set reasonable goals for yourself. Setting achievable goals can help keep things in perspective, and focus on what we need to do now.
