CVS has announces that they will begin providing overdose reversal drug naloxone without prescriptions. Providing access to this drug will prevent numerous overdoses from opiate abuse.
Amid surging opioid overdose deaths across the U.S., many states have taken action to expand access to naloxone. A number of states are now training and equipping first responders and other law enforcement officers.
Action must be taken to ensure that people are not using drugs with the knowledge that the overdose reversal drug is available in a risky situation. Naloxone sends the victim into an intense and “excruciating” withdrawal, which likely deters people from relying on it to enable their drug abuse.
