Mental Illness Awareness Week: Break the Stigma

This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week, a movement started by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, to bring awareness to mental health issues, provide support to the millions of Americans dealing with mental illness, educate the public, and fight the stigma that has long been attached to mental illness. The theme of this year’s awareness week is the #IAmStigmaFree initiative. NAMI explains being stigma free means “learning about and educating others on mental illness, focusing on connecting with people to see each other as individuals and not a diagnosis, and most importantly, taking action on mental health issues and taking the StigmaFree pledge.”
