OCD can come from different places. It can be derived from a traumatic situation, a trigger, or even just a habit. For those that have OCD, it can be a very debilitating condition that can control every aspect of your life. Some of the issues that come from having this disorder can be helpful, like cleaning and organizing. While others can have the ability to drive you nuts, with the constant need for reassurance and knowing things are done. There are ways to beat OCD, so you can function normally.
Realizing you have a problem is always the first step. Finding out what your OCD is and what it does to you. Know that you’ve done what you did so you don’t have to go back to what you just did. Know that it takes time to get past the compulsions. It’s not something that is going to be gone over night. Realize what you are doing. Make a note of the actions you’ve done. Refer back to the notes as a way to keep you from doing the same action again. Find a doctor and support group. Talking it out with others and seeing how they combat their compulsions, is a great way to let go a little bit.
